Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to apply relevant rules and regulations when acting as an official or volunteer in a motorsport event. It requires an understanding of the effects of non-compliance on the image of motorsport and on participants. It also includes the application of some basic strategies to prevent and/or deal with minor disputes regarding decisions made by the official.No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Assess event conditions
  • 1.1. Familiarise self with rules and regulations governing the event or competition
  • 1.2. Assess the participant status and criteria for the event or competition
  • 1.3. Ensure the environment, facilities and equipment within own area of responsibility are in accordance with requirements for the event or competition
  • 1.4. Assess and confirm that the safety and other risk management issues are within acceptable levels prior to the commencement of the event or competition, within own area of responsibility
  • 1.5. Report any concerns promptly to senior official
2. Observe the conduct of an event
  • 2.1. Maintain vigilant and alert observation of the event or competition at all times
  • 2.2. Undertake observation in accordance with relevant rules, regulations and guidelines for the event or competition
  • 2.3. Respond to identified problems without delay and take appropriate safety and risk management actions
3. Interpret and apply rules and regulations
  • 3.1. Follow the rules and regulations of motorsport in the performance of duties
  • 3.2. Practice ethical behaviour in the application of rules and regulations
  • 3.3. Discuss the consequences of perceived corruption or conflict of interest on the image of motorsport
  • 3.4. Determine the rule or regulation which is appropriate for the given situation
  • 3.5. Interpret the rule or regulation for the given situation to ensure consistency with competition outcomes
  • 3.6. Make decisions based on fairness
  • 3.7. Comply with directions and requests from stewards and senior officials
4. Communicate decisions
  • 4.1. Communicate decisions in accordance with the rules, regulations and guidelines, and the level of competition
  • 4.2. Manage the reactions of participants to decisions in accordance with the rules, regulations and guidelines
  • 4.3. Report incidents or non-compliant activities to senior official and/or stewards
