Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to assist with landscape works, including preparing for and undertaking landscape construction work as directed, handling materials and equipment, and clean up on completion of landscaping work in public, commercial and domestic situations.The unit applies to individuals who assist with landscape construction work under general supervision with limited autonomy or accountability.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare materials, tools and equipment for landscaping work
- 1.1 Confirm with supervisor landscape construction work to be undertaken
- 1.2 Select landscaping materials, tools and equipment according to lists provided and supervisor instructions
- 1.3 Select, fit and use personal protective equipment (PPE) applicable to the task
- 1.4 Use correct manual handling techniques when loading and unloading materials
- 1.5 Identify and report workplace hazards to supervisor
2. Undertake landscape work as directed
- 2.1 Follow instructions and directions provided by supervisor, and seek clarification when necessary
- 2.2 use selected tools safely and effectively
- 2.3 Follow workplace policies and procedures in relation to workplace practices and handling and disposal of materials
- 2.4 Maintain a clean and safe work site while undertaking landscaping work
- 2.5 Report problems or difficulties in completing work to required standards or timelines to supervisor
3. Handle materials and equipment
- 3.1 Handle and transport materials, tools, equipment and machinery according to workplace procedures
- 3.2 Clean, maintain and store materials, tools and equipment according to workplace procedures
4. Clean up on completion of landscaping work
- 4.1 Store or dispose of waste material and debris in a designated area
- 4.2 Restore site according to supervisor instructions
- 4.3 Report work outcomes and malfunctions, faults, wear or damage of tools to supervisor
