Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to plan deployed aircraft maintenance, provide support to deployed maintenance personnel, and monitor and evaluate their activities within the Australian Defence Force (ADF) airworthiness jurisdiction. Work may be performed individually or as part of a team.The unit applies to deployment and detachment activities at away from home base of aircraft that are to be supported by a deployed maintenance team for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. The work may be undertaken in Australia or overseas in military airfields, civilian airfields, and unprepared areas of operations.This unit forms part of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requirement for maintenance certification licences under Civil Aviation Safety Regulation (CASR) Part 66. Where a CASA licensing outcome is sought, users must refer to the licensing provisions in the MEA Aeroskills Companion Volume Implementation Guide.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan aircraft detachment maintenance activities
  • 1.1 Determine deployment/detachment objectives
  • 1.2 Identify resource requirements, and obtain and allocate resources in line with identified objectives
  • 1.3 Validate maintenance personnel qualifications and authorisations
  • 1.4 Establish liaison with detachment locality authorities
  • 1.5 Schedule detachment activities
2. Prepare maintenance plan
  • 2.1 Incorporate short and long-term goals into maintenance plan in line with flight/squadron objectives and priorities
  • 2.2 Check maintenance plan to ensure it conforms to airworthiness regulations, and ADF policies and procedures; and that it reflects available resources
  • 2.3 Develop realistic and relevant work objectives
3. Detach aircraft
  • 3.1 Perform pre-detachment inspections and report deficiencies according to ADF policy and procedures
  • 3.2 Brief designated personnel
  • 3.3 Detach aircraft and equipment
4. Provide technical airworthiness/engineering advice
  • 4.1 Submit maintenance interval extension requests as required and in line with organisational policy and procedures
  • 4.2 Authorise carried forward unserviceabilities
  • 4.3 Provide technical advice to higher authorities relating to maintenance and to design of modifications and repairs to aircraft structure/systems
5. Monitor and evaluate maintenance activities
  • 5.1 Assess maintenance outcomes against maintenance plan goals and objectives
  • 5.2 Identify and analyse deviations and problems and initiate required responses
  • 5.3 Record and report maintenance outcomes according to ADF policy and procedures
