This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to apply the principles of flexible pavement construction in Civil construction.This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory roles.No licensing, legislation, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Plan and prepare to apply the principles of flexible pavement construction
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply flexible pavement construction documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Identify and confirm specific task requirements
  • 1.6 Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage and barriers requirements
  • 1.7 Identify, locate, check for faults and supply all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks
  • 1.8 Ensure a job plan is available which makes best use of the available resources and meets task requirements
2. Apply the principles of flexible pavement construction
  • 2.1 Confirm that the necessary resources are available
  • 2.2 Ensure clear and timely instructions are communicated to team members and others involved
  • 2.3 Set out tasks to ensure effective completion of the work activity
3. Oversee the execution of tasks
  • 3.1 Monitor flexible pavement construction task performance to ensure it achieves the required outcomes
  • 3.2 Initiate adjustments to work practice or job plan to ensure required outcomes
  • 3.3 Supply coaching solutions where tasks require problem solving
  • 3.4 Ensure plant equipment and tools maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded
  • 3.5 Monitor movements and hazards and identify and communicate changes to the work environment during the work process
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Clear work area and dispose of, reuse or recycling of materials
  • 4.2 Clean, check, maintain and store machinery, tools and equipment
5. Report on the execution of tasks

  • 5.2 Recommend changes to improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the execution of tasks
