Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to sketch initial hat designs and develop detailed designs in order to confirm client order and determine construction requirements. It encompasses design and drawing skills.

1 Prepare to illustrate millinery designs
- 1.1 Millinery designs and shapes to be illustrated are selected
- 1.2 Sketching materials are obtained
- 1.3 Sketching objectives are explained to the client
2 Sketch millinery designs
- 2.1 Millinery sketch is produced in 3 dimensional format
- 2.2 Millinery sketch depicted in correct proportion to the head and body
- 2.3 Front, back and side views are sketched
- 2.4 Details of complex designs are sketched
- 2.5 Alternative sketches are provided if necessary
- 2.6 Features of sketch are explained
3 Prepare millinery designs
- 3.1 Detailed production sketch is developed
- 3.2 Production sketch includes construction details
- 3.3 Relationship to hair, figure, face and garment style are considered in the design of millinery
- 3.4 Material selected has appropriate characteristics for millinery design
- 3.5 Combination of materials selected are appropriate for millinery design
- 3.6 Alternatives are experimented with and researched if necessary
4 Work to quality and safety standards
- 4.1 Workplace quality standards and procedures for specific task are identified
- 4.2 Work is conducted to meet workplace quality standards
- 4.3 OHS practices for the specific task are identified
- 4.4 Work task is conducted according to OHS practices
