Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for small open cut mine equipment operations
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply small open cut mine equipment documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Access, interpret and apply geological and survey data required to complete the allocated work
  • 1.6 Inspect and prepare work area in coordination with others
  • 1.7 Select, and check for faults, equipment and/or attachments for work activities
  • 1.8 Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
2. Operate small open cut mine equipment
  • 2.1 Coordinate activities with others at the site prior to commencement of, and during, the work activity
  • 2.2 Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up, shutdown and equipment security procedures
  • 2.3 Drive and operate equipment, and modify the operating technique to meet changing work conditions
  • 2.4 Change and operate ancillary attachments to the support equipment
  • 2.5 Operate support equipment with and without ancillary attachments, within the equipment limitations
  • 2.6 monitor hazards and risks , and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
  • 2.7 Complete work plan within the operating capacity of the equipment
3. Carry out operator maintenance
  • 3.1 Prepare machine for maintenance
  • 3.2 Conduct inspection and fault finding
  • 3.3 Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks
  • 3.4 Return machine to service
  • 3.5 Process written maintenance records
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Clear work area and dispose of or recycle materials
  • 4.2 Clean and maintain condition of equipment, ensure suitability for use, and address/report issues
