This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge to operate small equipment and to prepare and load product into aircraft tanks as part of an incident response strategy. It includes working safely with product, protecting water supplies and the environment, operating and maintaining small equipment to prepare and load product, loading product into aircraft and responding to product spillage.Product may include fire retardant, a fire suppressant such as foam, gel, or water (without additive). It may also be an oil spill dispersant or other product. Some products, such as water, will require minimum preparation and work may be undertaken under limited supervision. The preparation of other products such as fire retardant will be more technical and therefore, preparation may need to be undertaken under supervision within a team environment. A wide range of small equipment is used to prepare and load product. A trained person will need to receive an induction where the preparation and loading involves product and/or equipment with which they are unfamiliar. This unit is applicable to personnel working at an airbase and operating small equipment to prepare and load product into aircraft for dispersal as part of an incident management strategy.
