Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify and assess individual participant requirements for arts and health programs. The process includes formulating adaptive strategies to meet individual needs of participants in a variety of environments and contexts.The unit applies to those who are arts and health practitioners, who plan and evaluate the practical alterations required for organisational environments, processes, facilities and resources to enhance the accessible incorporation of creative arts into health care regimes.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Identify arts and health requirements of participants
- 1.1 Obtain and record participant’s health history using professional protocols and according to organisational procedures
- 1.2 Seek and record additional health-related information, with consent from participant, from participant’s family and/or carer(s), community members and referrals
- 1.3 Consult required allied health professionals and available documentation in relation to participant health
- 1.4 Document required participant health-related information according to organisational policies and procedures
2. Implement individualised support strategies for arts and health program participants
- 2.1 Develop plan to adapt arts and health practices to accommodate individual participant needs according to legislative requirements
- 2.2 Brief artists, staff, volunteers and other required personnel regarding individual needs of participant according to organisational procedures
- 2.3 Coordinate facilities and equipment required for program delivery according to participant’s accessibility, location and size requirements
- 2.4 Observe participant participation and identify and manage support needs according to organisational protocols and guidelines
3. Monitor adjustments to arts and health practices
- 3.1 Identify need for program or delivery adjustments to improve outcomes and adjust as required
- 3.2 Seek specialist advice relating to further adjustments where necessary according to organisational procedures
- 3.3 Record program changes and report them to required personnel as required according to organisational procedures
- 3.4 Report participant difficulties and concerns to involved allied health professionals
