Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to audit information technology (IT) system design specifications against organisational policies, procedures and system expectations. It also includes collecting audit evidence, as well as documenting and analysing audit findings.The unit applies to individuals who may work as system designers and auditors who are responsible for validating the compliance of IT system designs with required organisational and legislative audit standards.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to audit system designs
  • 1.1 Confirm work brief and tasks according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 1.2 Identify system on which the quality audit will be performed according to work brief
  • 1.3 Select techniques and methodologies for audit of system design
  • 1.4 Identify automated and manual controls that depend on information technology (IT) system
  • 1.5 Confirm system access for required quality audit
  • 1.6 Prepare audit plan for required specifications according to organisational and legislative requirements
2. Implement audit plan
  • 2.1 Access system to be audited and required resources
  • 2.2 Collect evidence about the functionality and quality of the in-scope system according to audit plan
  • 2.3 Identify IT system control deficiencies and weaknesses
  • 2.4. Document audit outcomes according to work brief
  • 2.5 Document any issues detected in audit according to work brief
3. Finalise findings
  • 3.1 Obtain and review system contract through required means
  • 3.2 Compare system functionality against system contract according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 3.3 Analyse instances of noncompliance and points where system design does not reflect contract details according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 3.4 Document recommended options for corrective action according to work brief
  • 3.5 Disclose audit findings according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 3.6 Save documentation and quality audit in secure location according to organisational requirements.
