Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to explore the use of technology in music making and use technology to create musical pieces. The unit applies to those who work in a range of music production environments and who use music technology as a tool for their music making. This music can be used in the music, screen, media, entertainment and other industries. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to incorporate technology into music making
- 1.1 Use information sources to identify artists, musical genres and styles that incorporate music technology and discuss with required personnel
- 1.2 Develop and record creative and technical goals for music making
- 1.3 Confirm technical and creative purpose of musical piece to be developed with required personnel
- 1.4 Agree on deadline and format for final presentation of musical piece with required personnel
- 1.5 Develop and refine own ideas for making music using technology in line with confirmed purpose of musical piece
- 1.6 Identify and select instruments and electronic music making tools required for musical piece
2. Create music using technology
- 2.1 Test range of ways for producing and combining sounds to achieve music making goals
- 2.2 Organise musical elements into musical piece using music making technology according to creative and technical goals
- 2.3 Listen to work in progress with required personnel and seek feedback against creative and technical goals
- 2.4 Incorporate feedback and adjust musical piece as required
3. Present and review music
- 3.1 Present musical piece in required format by agreed deadline
- 3.2 Seek feedback from required personnel
- 3.3 Identify and develop ways to improve own music making skills according to feedback received
- 3.4 Evaluate effectiveness of technology used in music making
