This unit of competency specifies the skills and knowledge required to prepare for the installation and servicing of fire protection equipment, systems and products. It includes accessing and applying requirements of relevant Australian Standards to work instructions, selecting and checking tools, equipment and hardware, preparing the work area and managing a service vehicle. It also includes understanding and applying knowledge of the regulatory framework relating to installation and servicing operations as all preparatory work must be completed according to relevant legislative, industry and workplace requirements, including policies and procedures associated with work health and safety (WHS) and ozone depleting substances (ODS) and synthetic greenhouse gases (SGG).The unit is suitable for those with basic skills and knowledge undertaking routine work tasks under the direction of more experienced workers.Candidates must hold a current, nationally recognised licence required to operate the type of service vehicle.ODS and SGG are gaseous fire-extinguishing agents listed in Schedule 1 of the Ozone Protection and Synthetic Greenhouse Gas Management Act 1989 and by law, can only be handled by people who hold an appropriate extinguishing agent handling licence (EAHL).
