Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to source ideas for design, prepare design concepts based on a design brief and communicate the design. Concepts are for simple textile products without complicated design features. Products may be apparel or non-wearable items.The unit applies to individuals following the design process and the elements and principles of design to guide work. No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

1. Source ideas for design
  • 1.1 Review design brief and identify criteria for design concept
  • 1.2 Select and review information to inform ideas for design
2. Develop design concept
  • 2.1 Develop ideas through experimentation with tools, techniques, and elements and principles of design
  • 2.2 Confirm ideas based on research, experimentation and discussion with key people
  • 2.3 Investigate colour dimensions combinations and prepare colour design using principle of colour mixing and matching
  • 2.4 Identify commercial considerations to be considered
  • 2.5 Finalise concept and specifications for product based on initial design concept
3. Communicate design concept
  • 3.1 Select a method of communicating the design that is suited to the audience
  • 3.2 Use techniques to communicate the design according to chosen communication method
  • 3.3 Seek feedback on design and identify and action changes based on feedback
