Description
This unit describes the skills required to operate and maintain salt water interception works. This unit applies to those working as field staff with the responsibility for making decisions relating to maintenance, repairs and operations as well as providing detailed reports on performance and optimisation of the salt interception works. The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Those undertaking this unit will work independently under indirect supervision while performing routine tasks in a range of familiar contexts. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to unit at the time of publication.

1. Plan and prepare work
  • 1.1 Collect data from ground water.
  • 1.2 Establish evaporation pond capacity.
  • 1.3 Develop salt interception plan.
2. Operate salt interception works
  • 2.1 Identify, set or adjust pump station components.
  • 2.2 Carry out routine security inspections and cleaning duties.
  • 2.3 Operate pump station.
3. Maintain salt interception works
  • 3.1 Conduct routine maintenance of salinity pump stations.
  • 3.2 Conduct acid dosing of salinity lines.
  • 3.3 Maintain saline water collection and disposal pipelines.
  • 3.4 Conduct repairs to pipe lines and valves.
  • 3.5 Undertake minor civil construction works.
4. Enhance salt interception performance
  • 4.1 Gather data and create a report on salt interception scheme performance.
  • 4.2 Optimise salt interception performance.
  • 4.3 Undertake hydraulic performance of saline collection and disposal pipelines.
5. Compile salt interception reports
  • 5.1 Collect required data from monitoring points.
  • 5.2 Report salt interception works performance.
