Description
This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to apply produce pellets in Metalliferous mining.This unit is appropriate for those working in an operational role. Licensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to pelletise materials
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply produce pellets documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain and clarify/confirm verbal and written work instructions before proceeding
  • 1.3 Receive, interpret and clarify shift changeover details
  • 1.4 Communicate with other personnel using approved communication methods
  • 1.5 Select and wear personal protective equipment for the work activity
  • 1.6 Identify, address and report potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.7 Complete systems and equipment pre-start checks
2. Pelletise materials
  • 2.1 Monitor and maintain required pressure throughout the bed
  • 2.2 Confirm feeder is clear of debris and build-up
  • 2.3 Check and confirm condition of pallet seal and wind box to prevent leakage
  • 2.4 Deposit pellets across full width of the grate
  • 2.5 Operate at full bed depth and grate speed
3. Condition pellets for load out
  • 3.1 Ensure maintenance of maximum depth of pellets on pallets
  • 3.2 Regulate temperature to plant requirements
  • 3.3 Minimise leakage of air
  • 3.4 Crush and screen oversize material
  • 3.5 Extract specific quantities of material at size required for work activity
  • 3.6 Ensure walkways are clear of spillage and scrap
  • 3.7 Pass on shift changeover details to oncoming shift
