This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to carry out inspections of civil structures, including implementing the job plan and overseeing and reporting on the execution of civil structure inspections.It applies to those working in supervisory or technical roles. They generally perform a broad range of operational activities in their area of responsibility and are responsible for monitoring a safe work environment. Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare tasks
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret and clarify work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to inspect civil structures and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
  • 1.5 Prepare and implement a job plan that meets task requirements in consultation with team members
  • 1.6 Confirm required resources are acquired and made available for task
2. Prepare team members to execute tasks
  • 2.1 Identify team member training requirements and develop and implement training plans
  • 2.2 Issue task instructions to team members and others involved according to job requirements
3. Oversee execution of tasks
  • 3.1 Monitor civil structures inspection task performance
  • 3.2 Implement adjustments to inspection processes or job plan if required and confirm required outcomes are achieved
  • 3.3 Confirm program for plant, equipment and tool maintenance is carried out and written records are kept
4. Report on execution of tasks
  • 4.1 Complete and submit reports according to site requirements
  • 4.2 Recommend changes to improve tasks
