Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to install and commission data logging equipment. The application this unit may include high density residential and commercial dwellings and facilities.It includes preparing, installing, and commissioning data logging equipment, as well as completing and reporting installation activities. This unit applies to any work site where meters are installed, and subject to all work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) and duty of care requirements being met for the workplace.The application of the skills and knowledge described in this unit may require a licence/registration to practise in the workplace. Other conditions may apply under state and territory legislative and regulatory licensing requirements which must be confirmed prior to commencing this unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare to install data logging equipment
  • 1.1 Instructions for the work are obtained and confirmed with relevant person/s in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.2 Job requirements and workplace procedures for the work are discussed with relevant person/s to confirm the work schedule
  • 1.3 WHS/OHS requirements and workplace procedures are identified and applied
  • 1.4 Hazards are identified, risks are assessed and control measures implemented
  • 1.5 Installation of the data logging equipment is prepared in consultation with relevant person/s
  • 1.6 Nature and location of work is determined from documentation and/or relevant person/s to determine scope of work
  • 1.7 Location and access to equipment is organised and confirmed
  • 1.8 Location of data logging and associated equipment is planned within constraints of building structure, conditions, and regulations
  • 1.9 Advice is sought from relevant person/s and stakeholder/s to ensure work is coordinated with others in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 1.10 Materials needed for installation work are obtained in accordance with workplace procedures and checked against job requirements
  • 1.11 Resources, including equipment, tools, materials and personal protective equipment (PPE), required to undertake the work are identified, obtained and checked for correct operation and safety in accordance with workplace procedures and manufacturer instructions
2 Install data logging equipment
  • 2.1 WHS/OHS risk control measures and procedures for carrying out the work are followed
  • 2.2 Stray current testing and protection is undertaken in accordance with industry standards, regulations and workplace procedures
  • 2.3 Materials, tools, equipment and devices to perform the work are selected and used correctly and safely in accordance with manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures
  • 2.4 The data logging equipment is installed, connected, and commissioned in accordance with manufacturer instructions, workplace procedures and job requirements
  • 2.5 Unplanned situations and faults are dealt with safely in consultation with relevant authorised person/s in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 2.6 Quality and safety checks of the work are undertaken in accordance with workplace procedures, industry standards and manufacturer instructions
3 Complete work and relevant documentation
  • 3.1 WHS/OHS work completion risk control measures and workplace procedures are followed
  • 3.2 Final checks are performed to ensure quality of work complies with manufacturer instructions, industry standards and regulations
  • 3.3 Relevant person/s are notified of work completion in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.4 Worksite is cleaned and made safe in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.5 Equipment, tools and any surplus resources and materials are cleaned, checked and stored securely or disposed of in accordance with workplace procedures
  • 3.6 Work completion records and documentation are completed in accordance with job requirements and workplace procedures
