Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare non-fleece wool to comply with the requirements of the industry code of practice.This unit applies to individuals who work under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work, including limited responsibility for the work of others.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, work health and safety (WHS) and biosecurity practices, according to state/territory regulations, legislation, codes and standards that apply to the workplace. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare for shed work
- 1.1 Check the shed for safety and remove any hazards in line with work health and safety (WHS) standards
- 1.2 Identify and follow shed wool harvesting teamwork requirements
- 1.3 Identify and follow shed biosecurity requirements
2. Prepare skirtings
- 2.1 Identify types of skirtings and oddments
- 2.2 Identify types of pieces and separate
- 2.3 Prepare skirtings as directed by Wool Classer
3. Prepare belly wool
- 3.1 Identify and separate belly wool
- 3.2 Remove urine stain and briskets as directed and in line with workplace standards
- 3.3 Prepare ewe and wether belly wool
4. Prepare wool from first shearing wool
- 4.1 Identify types of lambs' and weaners’ wool
- 4.2 Prepare lambs' and weaner wool according to workplace procedures
- 4.3 Remove urine stain and trimmings according to workplace standards
