This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to respond to local emergencies and incidents in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.This unit is appropriate for those working in operational rolesLicensing, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories, and Industry sectors. Relevant information must be sourced prior to application of the unit.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare to respond to local emergencies and incidents
- 1.1 Access, interpret and apply local emergencies and incidents documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
- 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- 1.5 Identify, establish and maintain communication systems with other personnel during the emergency
- 1.6 Communicate and coordinate activities with others prior to, during and on completion of the work activity
- 1.7 Locate, obtain and test emergency equipment
- 1.8 Identify, clarify and confirm nature, scope and location of the emergency or incident
- 1.9 Assess emergency or incident and determine appropriate course of action
- 1.10Notify appropriate personnel of emergency or incident
2. Respond to emergency or incident situations
- 2.1 Identify, confirm and follow emergency evacuation procedures
- 2.2 Coordinate and control response to emergency or incident
- 2.3 Identify risks and/or hazards and communicate with signs, signals or barriers
- 2.4 Select and use emergency equipment
- 2.5 Take local measures to reduce impact of emergency or incident
- 2.6 Continually monitor and assess emergency situation and changes in circumstances
- 2.7 Communicate requests for further assistance or evacuation to emergency personnel
- 2.8 Control the emergency or incident situation until formal relief is notified/received
