Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to rework an existing composition into a different instrumental or vocal grouping to produce a musically distinctive sound, according to an arrangement brief.The unit applies to those who apply well developed skills in aural imagination, aural perception and harmony to arrange music in any genre. They may help structure compositions, write versions of songs for performance, recording and publication, provide charts for rhythm sections, and add original musical elements to final arrangements.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare to arrange music
- 1.1 Clarify scope of music arrangement brief and timelines with client
- 1.2 Consult people with required expertise and identify factors that may impact on approach to arranging music
- 1.3 Brief others involved in music arrangement project as required
- 1.4 Prepare plan for completing work in line with requirements of brief and prepare an agreement reflecting work to be completed as required
- 1.5 Determine arranging convention required for the musical style
- 1.6 Generate and document musical ideas and starting points for arrangement and test options for realising them
- 1.7 Discuss and refine ideas with required personnel
2. Arrange music
- 2.1 Adapt and organise musical elements into working versions of arrangement, applying different techniques
- 2.2 Share work in progress with required personnel and seek feedback on creative and technical aspects of arrangement
- 2.3 Use music technology as required according to arrangement brief
- 2.4 Listen to arrangement being produced, rehearsed or played, and make required adjustments according to arrangement brief
- 2.5 Incorporate ideas and feedback into final arrangement
- 2.6 Obtain copyright clearances and address issues regarding intellectual property rights as required according requirements
3. Present and evaluate music arrangements
- 3.1 Present arrangement in required format by agreed deadline according to arrangement brief and agreement requirements
- 3.2 Identify criteria to measure success of own arrangement
- 3.3 Evaluate own work and identify areas for future improvement
- 3.4 Discuss feedback on arrangement with required personnel
