This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to handle concrete materials in civil construction, including handling, sorting and removing concrete materials and components. It applies to those working in operational roles. 1. Plan and prepare to handle concrete materials
  • 1.1 Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.2 Access, interpret and apply documentation required to handle concrete materials and confirm work activity is compliant
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear personal protective equipment according to site requirements
  • 1.5 Obtain, interpret, clarify and apply relevant drawings, job specifications and work instruction prior to proceeding
  • 1.6 Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage requirements
  • 1.7 Select all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks and check for faults
2. Handle and sort concrete materials and components
  • 2.1 Identify and check on-site delivery of concrete materials and components and confirm against material schedule, plans and specifications
  • 2.2 Move concrete materials to specified location and apply manual handling procedures according to job and site requirements
  • 2.3 Stack and stockpile concrete materials and components and retrieve according to task sequence and job location
  • 2.4 Protect concrete materials and components against damage and store clear of access ways according to site requirements
  • 2.5 Handle and position components for installation according to job and site requirements
3. Handle and remove concrete materials and components on completion
  • 3.1 Handle materials according to job and site requirements
  • 3.2 Identify hazardous material for separate handling according to site requirements
  • 3.3 Apply dust suppression procedures according to site requirements
  • 3.4 Protect materials according to site requirements

4. Conduct clean-up activities
