Description

This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to use high-level design software program functions and features to produce mine drawings. It includes linking drawing entities to database attributes and creating and plotting detailed views using various scales. This unit is suitable for surveyors who use broad theoretical and technical knowledge to analyse information as well as interpret and provide solutions to unpredictable and sometimes complex surveying/spatial information problems. The unit supports those who work in a technical management role in a mining environment.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, in accordance with relevant state/territory regulations that govern surveying work, as well as work health and safety (WHS) legislation and regulations that apply to the workplace. Cadastral surveying must be undertaken under the supervision of a registered surveyor. Users must check with the relevant regulatory state/territory authority before delivery. Licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit in some states/territories where mining surveying must be undertaken under the supervision of a registered surveyor. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

Elements and Performance Criteria

1 Establish drawing task.

1.1 Clarify drawing and detail requirements in consultation with appropriate persons.
1.2 Determine main work activities to achieve required outcomes.
1.3 Identify potential hazards to be noted on the drawings.

2 Prepare drawing environment.

2.1 Identify standard operating procedures, drawing standards and organisational requirements for drafting mine drawings.
2.2 Set up and use appropriate software according to organisational requirements.
2.3 Customise menus and drawing defaults to suit job and organisational requirements.
2.4 Create survey database according to organisational requirements.

3 Create mine drawings.

3.1 Link drawing entities to database attributes in line with organisational requirements.
3.2 Extract supplementary data from existing mining plans and drawings to meet job requirements.
3.3 Incorporate safety requirements into drawings according to project specifications.
3.4 Create detailed views using various scales to meet job requirements.
3.5 Save files in required formats according to organisational requirements.

4 Produce output.

4.1 Produce plots at required scale and incorporate relevant supplementary data to meet job requirements.
4.2 Produce entities from drawing files or database and list in required format to meet project specifications.
4.3 Use mine reference system to process and reduce identified spatial components.

5 Finalise drawings.

5.1 Finalise and check drawings for compliance with organisational requirements.
5.2 Notify appropriate persons of results according to organisational requirements.
5.3 Complete documentation and store spatial data according to organisational requirements.
