This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to recognise and report security threats. This includes being aware of and assessing situations involving threats to the security and safety of a vessel or port facility, and reporting threats or suspicious situations.This unit applies to individuals applying security procedures when responding to security threats. 1 Maintain basic awareness of potential security threats and incidents
- 1.1 Workplace requirements and procedures for maintaining security of a vessel and the port facility are identified and followed
- 1.2 Own role and responsibilities are identified, and requirements are confirmed and complied with in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.3 Methods of maintaining security awareness and vigilance are identified
- 1.4 Role of designated personnel for security response is confirmed in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.5 Process for contributing to workplace security and safety is confirmed in accordance with workplace procedures
- 1.6 Work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements are recognised and complied with
2 Recognise potential security threats
- 2.1 Potential security threats are promptly identified, assessed and response is prioritised in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.2 Emergency and evacuation procedures are accessed and followed in accordance with workplace procedures and instructions
- 2.3 Factors with increased security risk are identified in accordance with workplace procedures
- 2.4 Appropriate actions for maintaining security and safety of self, others, port facilities and vessel are identified and followed in accordance with workplace procedures and instructions
3 Respond to security threat
- 3.1 Relevant personnel are alerted to security threat or situation in an effective and efficient manner in accordance with workplace procedures
- 3.2 Potential security threat or situation is responded in accordance with workplace procedures and instructions
4 Report security threat
- 4.1 Workplace procedures for reporting security threats and incidents are accessed and followed
- 4.2 Reports of security incidents or threats are completed in accordance with workplace procedures
- 4.3 Communications are maintained with relevant personnel, security operations are reviewed, and outcomes are documented in accordance with workplace procedures
