Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to lead processes to determine and implement changes in the supply chain which support circularity. This unit applies to managers, supply chain specialists, technical specialists or similar roles with authority and influence to drive change through specific initiatives. The individual will map the supply chain for a process, product or service, identify opportunities for improved circularity, facilitate others’ understanding of and engagement with circularity, lead the implementation of improvements and help to embed the improvements within the organisation. In this unit, the supply chain focus is on the procurement and/or management of infrastructure, resources and/or services for the organisation to deliver its core functions, products and/or services. For the purposes of this unit, circularity refers to the application of decisions and activities designed to move the organisation towards a non-waste scenario that is in equilibrium and which supports regeneration of natural systems. Circularity improvements will typically align to one or more aspects of the currently accepted frameworks of 3 Circular Economy principles and 5 Circular Economy business models.This unit applies to any organisation.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine circularity context
  • 1.1 Map existing supply chain for a process, product or service to identify key steps and actors
  • 1.2 Review circularity principles and practices for relevance to organisation’s supply chain
  • 1.3 Review current and proposed legislation, regulations, standards and codes for supply chain requirements relevant to circularity
  • 1.4 Identify supply chain decisions and/or processes with potential for circularity improvements
  • 1.5 Determine criteria, relevant to the context, for selection of circularity improvements
2. Determine opportunities for circularity improvements
  • 2.1 Investigate identified supply chain decisions and/or processes to determine options for circularity improvements
  • 2.2 Apply selection criteria to identify options for further development
  • 2.3 Identify stakeholders and their stake in selected improvement options
  • 2.4 Determine stakeholder needs for information and/or other development in relation to circularity
  • 2.5 Collaborate with key stakeholders to define scope and develop implementation plans for selected options
  • 2.6 Determine likely outcomes from selected options in terms of system-wide impacts, costs, risks and benefits
  • 2.7 Evaluate likely outcomes to select priority initiatives
3. Determine agreed initiatives
  • 3.1 Provide information and facilitate communications with key stakeholders to promote understanding of and engagement with circularity
  • 3.2 Facilitate stakeholder input to evaluate and, if needed, amend initiatives
  • 3.3 Facilitate stakeholder agreement on initiatives to be implemented
  • 3.4 Determine metrics for implementation of and desired outcomes from initiatives
  • 3.5 Facilitate organisational approvals, resources and other support for initiatives
4. Oversee implementation of improvements
  • 4.1 Liaise with relevant stakeholders to develop detailed work or project plans
  • 4.2 Incorporate input from supply chain personnel and reference/s to supply chain procedures in work or project plans
  • 4.3 Oversee and assist with implementation of improvements
  • 4.4 Facilitate processes with stakeholders and, if needed, specialists to resolve problems
  • 4.5 Provide guidance and assistance to others to champion circularity and build capacity
  • 4.6 Monitor implementation metrics and take action to adjust implementation, as required, in response to issues
5. Finalise improvements
  • 5.1 Evaluate metrics and feedback from stakeholders to determine effectiveness of changes
  • 5.2 Determine and oversee amendments needed to achieve desired outcomes
  • 5.3 Oversee updates to systems, procedures and related documentation to support sustaining of successful improvements
  • 5.4 Oversee development and dissemination of communications to support sustaining of successful improvements
