This unit describes the performance outcomes required to locate, interpret and apply Australian Design Rules (ADR), original equipment manufacturer (OEM) requirements, Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) regulations, and Vehicle Standards Bulletin 6 (VSB6) National Code of Practice - Heavy Vehicle Modifications.It applies to those working in the commercial vehicle industry, and involves the application of skills and knowledge at a specialist level.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply to this unit in some jurisdictions. Users are advised to check with the relevant regulatory authority.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Review standards
  • 1.1 Heavy vehicle modification standards are identified
  • 1.2 ADR, OEM requirements, HVNL regulations, and VSB6 specifications for heavy vehicles are interpreted and applied
2. Check that vehicle complies with standards
  • 2.1 Workplace manufacturing or modification drawings are checked against VSB6 requirements for compliance
  • 2.2 Standards are checked against OEM specifications
  • 2.3 Work health and safety (WHS) requirements and workplace procedures are identified and followed
3. Complete documentation
  • 3.1 Non-compliance of standards is reported to appropriate personnel for rectification according to workplace procedures
  • 3.2 Workplace documentation is completed according to workplace procedures
