Description
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to contribute to the planning and implementation of the regeneration or revegetation of an area of forest for timber production. The unit applies to individuals who are involved in planning and implementing the regeneration or revegetation of forested areas for timber production.All work must be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare regeneration plan
  • 1.1 Identify requirements for a forest regeneration plan
  • 1.2 Review workplace procedures, environmental protection measures and legislative and regulatory requirements related to regenerating or revegetating forested areas for timber production
  • 1.3 Confirm site, timeline, budget and method of regeneration
  • 1.4 Consult with workplace personnel and other stakeholders to obtain input to the plan
  • 1.5 Seek necessary approvals and obtain permissions according to workplace procedures
  • 1.6 Liaise and seek support from senior personnel during preparation of plan, as required
  • 1.7 Produce draft plan according to workplace procedures
  • 1.8 Forward draft plan to appropriate personnel and confirm further actions
2. Coordinate implementation of regeneration plan
  • 2.1 Confirm availability of resources to implement planned regeneration or revegetation activities
  • 2.2 Implement emergency treatments and hazard notification procedures
  • 2.3 Communicate plan to contractor or work team as appropriate
  • 2.4 Coordinate implementation of forest regeneration plan with reference to budget, schedule, performance indicators and objectives
  • 2.5 Report on implementation of regeneration plan to appropriate personnel
3. Monitor forest regeneration
  • 3.1 Gather and assess information on performance at key milestones or established review periods
  • 3.2 Check that environmental, workplace health and safety and legislative compliance requirements are met and that documentation is accurate and up-to-date
  • 3.3 Maintain communication with senior forester and operations supervisor throughout implementation of the plan
  • 3.4 Make suggestions for amending forest regeneration plan to ensure that specifications, quality and performance targets are meeting planned requirements
  • 3.5 Report on outcomes of monitoring activities to appropriate personnel
4. Review forest regeneration plan
  • 4.1 Review outcomes against established objectives
  • 4.2 Consult with contractors, senior personnel and other stakeholders on potential improvements to regeneration plan
  • 4.3 Forward report on review of regeneration plan, including suggestions for future improvements to planning and implementation of regeneration and revegetation operations, to appropriate personnel
