This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to operate a pelt puller.This unit is applicable to plants processing sheep and goats.All work should be carried out to comply with workplace procedures, customer requirements and product specifications.This unit applies to individuals who work under broad direction and take responsibility for their own work including limited responsibility for the work of others. They provide and communicate solutions to a range of predictable problems.No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements are known to apply to this unit at the time of publication.This unit must be delivered and assessed in the context of Australian meat processing standards and regulations.

1. Clean and prepare equipment
  • 1.1 Clean and prepare equipment according to workplace requirements
  • 1.2 Perform routine maintenance and checks according to work instructions
2. Position carcase
  • 2.1 Position carcase and attach to pelt puller according to work instructions and workplace health and safety requirements
3. Operate pelt puller
  • 3.1 Start and operate pelt puller according to work instructions
  • 3.2 Identify and comply with workplace health and safety requirements
  • 3.3 Monitor operation of puller and report damage to the carcase or pelts to the supervisor
  • 3.4 Dispose of pelts in accordance with work instructions
  • 3.5 Keep work area neat and tidy and clear of pelts
