Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to build and deploy cloud-based applications using continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines in a range of contexts. It includes using each stage of the CI/CD automation process to build, test and merge applications, specifically in cloud-based environments.The unit applies to individuals who may work in a variety of roles, including software engineers, cloud engineers and test automation engineers responsible for automatically delivering code changes to customers.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Prepare for deployment
  • 1.1 Confirm work brief and tasks according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 1.2 Identify source repository according to work brief
  • 1.3 Assess and source deployment code according to work brief
  • 1.4 Review build and deployment procedures defined in work brief
2. Develop and run CI phase
  • 2.1 Review pipeline requirements according to work brief
  • 2.2 Configure pipeline and related components according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 2.3 Pull code from source repository using pipeline according to work brief
  • 2.4 Build software using pipeline according to work brief
  • 2.5 Run pipeline and analyse outcomes
  • 2.6 Rectify any issues and confirm pipeline can store build artefacts according to work brief
  • 2.7 Manually deploy build artefacts and confirm functionality
3. Configure feature branch
  • 3.1 Identify features in source repository according to work brief
  • 3.2 Create branch for new features and update code according to work brief
  • 3.3 Update CI pipeline set-up to build from new feature branch
  • 3.4 Discuss build errors with development team and identify root cause, where required
  • 3.5 Rectify any build errors
  • 3.6 Repeat CI pipeline with code updates and confirm any build issues are rectified, according to work brief
  • 3.7 Manually deploy build artefacts and confirm new feature functionality in application
4. Develop and run CD phase
  • 4.1 Configure CD pipeline for artefact deployment according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 4.2 Run CD pipeline and analyse artefact deployment outcomes
  • 4.3 Rectify any deployment issues and confirm application is working in target environment according to work brief
  • 4.4 Repeat CD pipeline using a feature branch and confirm any deployment issues are rectified, according to work brief
  • 4.5 Confirm new feature functionality in target environment
  • 4.6 Complete required documentation according to work brief and organisational policies and procedures
