Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to manage special international freight transport services.It includes forwarding dangerous goods, the international forwarding of special cargo (such as classified goods, perishables, flowers and plants, livestock, artworks, high value goods, and heavy-weight and out-of-gauge cargo), and special forwarding projects (such as international freight logistics for sporting or diplomatic events, business conventions and exhibitions).All activities are carried out in accordance with relevant organisational policy and procedures, as well as national and global codes of practice and regulations applicable to international freight forwarding.This unit also includes monitoring and tracking international transport of special cargo and dangerous goods, and ensuring all required forms and documentation are completed and/or required data is entered into applicable information technology systems. International freight forwarding (involving special freight transport services) covers importing, exporting and transiting freight.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Manage the provision of special freight transport services
- 1.1 Requirements for special international freight transport services are confirmed and clarified with customer
- 1.2 Pre-transport issues for special cargo type/s involved are identified and addressed in accordance with workplace procedures and regulations
- 1.3 Transport contracts are prepared
- 1.4 Suitable transport mode and routing are determined for special cargo involved
- 1.5 Requirements for packaging special cargo are determined and organised
- 1.6 Suitable container type/s are stipulated and its' transport worthiness confirmed and documented
- 1.7 Documentation requirements for special freight transport services are completed in accordance with procedures and regulations
- 1.8 Appropriate warehousing, storage and stowage for types of freight involved are organised in accordance with requirements
- 1.9 Delivery arrangements to/from docks, airports or terminal are organised and costed
- 1.10 All requirements for customs, quarantine and health clearance are checked for accuracy and completeness
- 1.11 Suitable instructions are provided to all parties involved in special cargo transport
2 Manage and organise international freight forwarding projects
- 2.1 Requirements for special forwarding project are confirmed and clarified with customer
- 2.2 Critical logistics aspects of special freight transport project are determined and are taken into account in planning freight forwarding solution/s
- 2.3 Pre-transport issues for freight involved are identified and addressed in accordance with operating procedures and regulations
- 2.4 Appropriate packaging for freight involved is organised in accordance with operating procedures and regulatory requirements
- 2.5 Appropriate warehousing, storage and stowage for types of freight involved are organised in accordance with project requirements
- 2.6 Documentation requirements for special freight transport services are completed in accordance with procedures and regulations
- 2.7 Delivery arrangements for freight to/from docks, airports or terminals are organised and costed in accordance with project requirements
- 2.8 All requirements for customs and other regulatory authorities are checked for accuracy and completeness
- 2.9 Suitable instructions are provided to all parties involved in freight transport concerned
3 Manage and organise the forwarding of dangerous goods
- 3.1 Requirements for international freight forwarding of dangerous goods are confirmed and clarified with customer
- 3.2 Classes of dangerous goods involved are determined and transport risks involved are identified and managed in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements
- 3.3 Pre-transport issues for classes of dangerous goods involved are identified and addressed in accordance with workplace procedures and regulations
- 3.4 Appropriate dangerous goods packaging is organised in accordance with regulatory requirements
- 3.5 Delivery arrangements for dangerous goods to/from docks, airports or terminal are organised and costed
- 3.6 All requirements for customs and other regulatory authorities are checked for accuracy and completeness
- 3.7 Suitable instructions are provided to all parties involved in the transport of the dangerous goods concerned
4 Monitor and track the international forwarding of special cargo and dangerous goods
- 4.1 Transit of special cargo and dangerous goods is monitored and tracked using available tracking systems
- 4.2 Problems in transport progress of special cargo or dangerous goods are promptly identified and appropriate action is initiated to resolve problems concerned
- 4.3 Appropriate personnel and customer are kept informed of transport progress of special cargo and dangerous goods and action taken to resolve problems that have arisen
5 Complete required forms and documentation
- 5.1 All required forms and other documentation are completed in accordance with procedures and regulatory requirements
- 5.2 Data is entered into information technology systems in accordance with applicable procedures and regulatory requirements
- 5.3 Reports on problems that have arisen and related action taken are completed in accordance with procedures and regulatory requirements
