Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to monitor and operate fluoride addition processes.It includes preparing for fluoridation processes, applying fluoride dosing and reporting on water quality control.This unit applies to those working as water operators responsible for fluoridation processes in water treatment. Those undertaking this unit would work under appropriate supervision, while performing routine tasks, in a range of familiar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare for work
- 1.1 Determine work requirements from job specifications and plans
- 1.2 Select and check equipment required to meet safety requirements of task and worksite
- 1.3 Select, fit and use required safety equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE)
- 1.4 Handle and store fluoridation chemicals according to workplace procedures
2 Monitor processes
- 2.1 Monitor fluoridation processes according to workplace procedures
- 2.2 Collect samples and conduct process tests according to workplace procedures
- 2.3 Perform calculations and make process adjustments to maintain effectiveness of fluoride according to workplace procedures
- 2.4 Monitor the parameter set points for critical control points and operational control points
3 Apply fluoride dosing
- 3.1 Prepare and apply fluoridation chemicals according to workplace procedures
- 3.2 Control fluoride dosing to maintain required fluoride concentration
- 3.3 Maintain information relating to fluoride supply and usage according to workplace procedures
4 Complete documentation
- 4.1 Collect, record and complete process data according to workplace procedures and process requirements
- 4.2 Identify data outside of normal operational parameters to relevant personnel for further action
