Description
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to use CAD software and equipment to produce 3D drawings of jewellery or object models. Drawings can be used to generate and document designs and inform production of jewellery or objects and incorporate standard practice notations and drawing protocols.This unit applies to individuals involved in jewellery or object design or manufacture in a small or large-scale production context. They use and adapt technical knowledge and skills to produce work.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 4

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine job requirements
- 1.1 Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- 1.2 Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
- 1.3 Identify job requirements from specifications
2. Prepare for drawing
- 2.1 Examine sketches, drawings and other information to confirm calculations and measurements
- 2.2 Select and prepare computing equipment and suitable software for jewellery or object designs
3. Use CAD applications to produce 3D model and documentation
- 3.1 Set up a 3D environment on the screen to allow multiple viewing
- 3.2 Use editing tools to create features and dimensions of jewellery or object
- 3.3 Manipulate drawing planes and shapes to create 3D view of jewellery or object
- 3.4 Produce isometric, perspective and orthographic projections
- 3.5 Extract mass and area properties of jewellery or object model
- 3.6 Use principles of perspective to enhance the spatial illusion of jewellery or objects in space
- 3.7 Apply basic rendering techniques to 3D model of jewellery or object
- 3.8 Apply drawing protocols and problem solving to refine and document drawing features
4. Save and back up files
- 4.1 Determine presentation for jewellery or object drawings based on project needs
- 4.2 Save and file drawings to allow easy access according to workplace documentation system
