Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to record, edit and mix specific sounds in post-production. It involves confirming production requirements, identifying Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) and Foley requirements, re-recording required sounds, and mixing re-recorded sounds according to production requirements.The unit applies to those who work as part of a production team to re-produce sounds for different productions. Individuals work with minimal supervision and guidance, and generally report to directors and other personnel with oversight of the post-production process.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Confirm project requirements
- 1.1 Confirm post-production sound requirements in consultation with required personnel
- 1.2 Assess quality of production sounds and determine ADR and Foley requirements
- 1.3 Establish and confirm timeline for re-recording sounds according to production requirements
2. Prepare to re-record sounds
- 2.1 Check sound recording equipment and accessories are safe, operational and meet production requirements
- 2.2 Confirm availability of required personnel and props for sound re-recording
- 2.3 Identify and resolve technical faults and problems according to organisational policies and procedures
- 2.4 Set up sound recording equipment according to production requirements
3. Re-record and clean up dialogue
- 3.1 Listen to dialogue and determine extent and range of required re-recordings
- 3.2 Strip synchronous sound effects from dialogue as required
- 3.3 Re-record dialogue according to ADR and production requirements
- 3.4 Identify alternative dialogue and dialogue recordings as required
- 3.5 Clean up synchronous sounds and confirm dialogue fits together according to production requirements
- 3.6 Discuss quality of re-recorded dialogue with required personnel and adjust as required
4. Re-record and clean up non-dialogue sounds
- 4.1 Listen to original non-dialogue sounds and determine extent and range of required re-recordings
- 4.2 Strip synchronous dialogue from non-dialogue sounds as required
- 4.3 Re-record non-dialogue sounds according to Foley and production requirements
- 4.4 Identify alternative non-dialogue sounds as required
- 4.5 Clean up synchronous sounds and confirm non-dialogue sounds fit together according to production requirements
- 4.6 Discuss quality of re-recorded non-dialogue sounds with required personnel and adjust as required
5. Mix re-recorded sounds
- 5.1 Mix re-recorded sounds using sound editing software and equipment according to production requirements
- 5.2 Listen to final sound mix with required personnel and adjust as required
- 5.3 Conduct quality check of final sound mix according to production requirements
- 5.3 Save and archive edited files according to production requirements and organisational policies and procedures
- 5.4 Confirm work environment cleaned and restored to pre-mixing condition
- 5.5 Complete workplace documentation as required according to organisational procedures
