Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop, cost, document and present a proposed product range for textiles other than garments. Products may be artworks, fabrics, fashion accessories, household items, industrial products or leisure productsThis unit applies to individuals who take responsibility for the product development process using significant specialised knowledge and skills to make commercial and design judgements for the business.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Analyse product development and design considerations
  • 1.1 Analyse product development brief to determine requirements and intended purpose of product range
  • 1.2 Identify and investigate internal and external factors that impact product development
  • 1.3 Recognise and analyse design elements, themes and potential concepts
2. Develop textile products
  • 2.1 Develop product concepts in line with brief
  • 2.2 Explore and progress design options based on product concepts and the brief
  • 2.3 Identify and explore options for scope of product range and interrelationships between items
  • 2.4 Consult with design team to refine product design and range options in line with the brief
  • 2.5 Develop and document evidence-based cost estimates for proposed products
  • 2.6 Review preliminary plans and make required modifications
  • 2.7 Develop documentation and presentation materials that support the further development of proposed products
3. Present textile product range for approval
  • 3.1 Present proposal for textile product range to client using presentation tools suited to client audience and nature of the brief
  • 3.2 Explain features, costs and benefits of proposed products to the client in line with initial design brief
  • 3.3 Respond to feedback from client and make required modifications
  • 3.4 Review product range to confirm acceptance of proposed designs
  • 3.5 Finalise development process and complete relevant documentation for further development
