Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to develop specifications which provide detailed information for the production of a garment design. Specification documentation includes all information required to produce the garment, including drawings and other technical information about size specifications, materials, colour and construction detail. Information may vary depending on whether production is onshore or offshore.This unit applies to individuals working in patternmaking or design roles.No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Determine requirements for product specifications
  • 1.1 Review design details and drawings to identify scope of information requirements for specifications
  • 1.2 Determine sizing requirements and acceptable tolerances from information
  • 1.3 Source and collate information required for product specifications from relevant sources
2. Develop specifications
  • 2.1 Set up specification documentation in accordance with workplace formats
  • 2.2 Integrate trade drawings, measurements and other technical information using appropriate tools and equipment
  • 2.3 Calculate and record set deviations based on design specifications
  • 2.4 Use checking and proofreading techniques to confirm accuracy and completeness of specification documentation
3. Review specifications against completed product
  • 3.1 Review garment specifications and information match against completed product, noting deviations and any rectifications needed
  • 3.2 Make required adjustments to finished product or repair deviations
  • 3.3 Revise specification documentation, noting modifications, and save in accordance with workplace procedures
