This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to conduct minor maintenance and repairs on waste processing plant and equipment. The unit covers scheduling and organising maintenance and repairs to plant and equipment to ensure tasks are completed within scheduled timeframes and minimum disruption to operations. The unit also covers conducting routine housekeeping, repair and maintenance work to check plant and equipment functionality; lubricate moving parts; adjust and replace minor components and accessories; identify and change worn parts; and identify and schedule repairs required for major faults and defects. The unit requires the ability to record the details of maintenance activities and supervise the work of others.The unit supports those who work in mechanic or labouring roles in a waste management team.Licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements may apply to this unit of competency in some States where a licence is required to operate various plant, vehicles or equipment used to transport, shift, load, unload, lift, compact or otherwise process waste.
