Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to set up machines for production changes in a textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) enterprise.
Notes
Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Set machine/s
- 1.1 Product specifications are interpreted correctly in relation to machine setting requirements1.2 Machine is set in accordance with product specifications, machine manufacturer instructions and OHS practices
2 Conduct sample runs
- 2.1 Material to be used for sampling is obtained2.2 Machine is operated in accordance with manufacturer and workplace instructions to produce a specified sample
3 Organise sample quality testing
- 3.1 Sample is tested, or the test is organised, in accordance with workplace practices to ensure required standards of quality are met
4 Re-adjust machine settings to meet requirements
- 4.1 Test results are interpreted to determine adjustment requirements4.2 Adjustment changes are assessed in accordance with product and machine specifications4.3 Appropriate production personnel are informed of the availability of the newly set up machine in accordance with workplace practices
5 Maintain records
- 5.1 Records are maintained and reports prepared, where necessary, in accordance with workplace practices

any machine typically used in the TCF sector concerned
microprocessor or computer controlled machines
both production and facility equipment used in the enterprise
OHS practices
OHS practices must include hazard identification and control, risk assessment and implementation of risk reduction measures specific to the tasks described by this unit, and may include:
manual handling techniques
standard operating procedures
personal protective equipment
safe materials handling
taking of rest breaks
ergonomic arrangement of workplaces
following marked walkways
safe storage of equipment
housekeeping
reporting accidents and incidents
other OHS practices relevant to the job and enterprise
