Description
This unit describes the skills required to monitor training area and range (TAR) activities to ensure those activities comply with Standing Orders, relevant policy and instructions.This unit was developed for Defence personnel who work in range management and range control but may be relevant to others who work in this field.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Those undertaking this unit would work independently or as part of a team, under indirect supervision, while performing complex tasks, in a range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts. They would use discretion and judgement and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Prepare for monitoring TAR activities
  • 1.1 Plan to view TAR activities in accordance with TAR Standing Orders and activity schedules
  • 1.2 Clarify purpose and outcomes of activities in accordance with TAR Standing Orders
  • 1.3 Establish clearances and access to activities in accordance with TAR Standing Orders
2 Monitor compliance of TAR activities
  • 2.1 Monitor TAR activities to ensure compliance with relevant policies and instructions
  • 2.2 Regulate non-compliant activities
3 Monitor contractor activities
  • 3.1 Establish and maintain communications and working relations with contractors
  • 3.2 Monitor contractor activities in accordance with relevant controls
  • 3.3 Report non-compliance in accordance with relevant instructions
4 Contribute to and monitor emergency plans
  • 4.1 Contribute to the maintenance of emergency plans related to the TAR
  • 4.2 Implement and maintain emergency plans
  • 4.3 Monitor the application of emergency plans related to the TAR
