This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to apply the principles of the stabilisation of materials in Civil Construction.This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory roles.No licensing, legislation, or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1. Plan and prepare to apply the principles of the stabilisation of materials
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply stabilisation of materials documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Identify and confirm specific task requirements
  • 1.6 Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage and barriers requirements
  • 1.7 Select and check for faults all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks
  • 1.8 Identify, address and report on ground conditions
  • 1.9 Identify and confirm specific task requirements Ensure a job plan is available which makes best use of the available resources and meets task requirements
2. Apply the principles of the stabilisation of materials
  • 2.1 Confirm the resources are available to conduct tasks
  • 2.2 Ensure clear, concise and timely verbal and written instructions are communicated to team members and others involved
  • 2.3 Set out tasks to ensure effective completion of the work activity
3. Oversee the execution of tasks
  • 3.1 Monitor the stabilisation of materials task performance to ensure it achieves the required outcomes
  • 3.2 Initiate adjustments to work practice or job plan to ensure required outcome
  • 3.3 Supply coaching solutions where tasks require problem solving
  • 3.4 Ensure plant equipment and tools maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded
  • 3.5 Monitor movements and hazards and identify and communicate changes to the work environment during the work process
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Ensure the clearing of the work area and disposal of, reuse or recycling of materials
  • 4.2 Clean, check, maintain and store machinery, tools and equipment
5. Report on the execution of tasks
  • 5.1 Complete and submit written reports
  • 5.2 Recommend changes to improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the execution of tasks
