Description
This unit describes a participant’s skills and knowledge required to inspect and report on pavement condition in Civil construction.This unit is appropriate for those working in supervisory roles.No licensing, legislation or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Plan and prepare for inspecting and reporting on pavement condition
  • 1.1 Access, interpret and apply pavement condition reporting and inspection documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
  • 1.2 Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
  • 1.3 Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
  • 1.4 Select and wear correct personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
  • 1.5 Identify, obtain, confirm and implement signage requirements
  • 1.6 Select and check for faults all tools and equipment to carry out tasks
  • 1.7 Identify and confirm specific task requirements
  • 1.8 Ensure a job plan is available which makes best use of the available resources and meets task requirements
2. Carry out inspection and reporting of pavement condition
  • 2.1 Ensure clear, concise and timely verbal and written instructions are communicated to team members and others involved
  • 2.2 Confirm the resources are available
  • 2.3 Set out tasks to ensure effective completion of the work activity
3. Oversee the execution of tasks
  • 3.1 Monitor pavement condition inspection performance to ensure it meets the task requirements
  • 3.2 Initiate adjustments to work practice or job plan to ensure safe execution of work and achievement of required outcomes
  • 3.3 Supply coaching solutions where tasks require problem solving
  • 3.4 Ensure plant equipment and tools maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded
  • 3.5 Monitor movements and hazards and identify and communicate changes to the work environment during the work process
4. Conduct housekeeping activities
  • 4.1 Ensure the clearing of the work area and disposal of, reuse or recycling of materials
  • 4.2 Clean, check, maintain and store machinery, tools and equipment
5. Report on the execution of tasks
  • 5.1 Complete and submit written reports as required
  • 5.2 Recommend corrective actions to improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the execution of tasks
