Description
This unit specifies the skills and knowledge required to load and secure aviation cargo in aircraft. Tasks need to be performed with attention to detail without injury to self/others or damage to goods or equipment.It includes loading and securing aviation cargo in fixed wing aircraft during air-land tasks. It also includes responding to aircraft loading issues.This unit applies to persons who are expected to load and secure aviation cargo in a Defence aerial delivery context, such as specialists working as part of an aerial delivery crew in and around aircraft, often in conjunction with the crew of supporting aircraft, tasked for air-land operations.The skills and knowledge described in this unit must be applied within the legislative, regulatory and policy environment in which they are carried out. Organisational policies and procedures must be consulted and adhered to.Persons undertaking this unit would perform in a range of contexts, under supervision, as part of a team, while performing specific tasks.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

1 Load and secure aviation cargo in aircraft
- 1.1 Marshal vehicles up and to aircraft after obtaining clearance
- 1.2 Prepare aircraft for loading
- 1.3 Stow cargo in aircraft using manual handling techniques and in accordance with organisational procedures
- 1.4 Operate loading aids to load cargo
- 1.5 Select, operate and apply restraint devices
- 1.6 Secure and restrain cargo
2 Respond to aircraft loading issues
- 2.1 Identify problems in loading, stowing and securing cargo
- 2.2 Determine solution/s in consultation with load team members and load supervisor
- 2.3 Identified solution/s is implemented
- 2.4 Report to appropriate personnel identified problem/s that cannot be resolved by the load team
