Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify opportunities where assistive devices, systems and services can be implemented in organisations and workplace contexts to improve digital capabilities that support inclusion and accessibility for persons with disabilities.The unit applies to individuals working in information and communications technology (ICT) roles, including inclusion officers, human resource generalists and disability access officers.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Review assistive technologies in organisational accessibility plan (OAP)
  • 1.1 Confirm work brief and tasks according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 1.2 Analyse and discuss the organisational accessibility plan (OAP) and its objectives with required personnel according to work brief
  • 1.3 Evaluate budget for assistive technologies with required personnel according to work brief
  • 1.4 Identify and discuss potential deficiencies in OAP with disability specialists and other required personnel
2. Recommend assistive technologies
  • 2.1 Research physical environment considerations for human interaction with assistive technologies
  • 2.2 Document characteristics of observed interactions according to work brief
  • 2.3 Research options for assistive programs and technologies
  • 2.4 Confirm that implementation costs of assistive programs and technologies are within budget according to work brief
  • 2.5 Analyse and compare options according to work brief
  • 2.6 Develop recommendations and rationale for proposed implementation of selected assistive technologies according to analysis findings
3. Present recommendations
  • 3.1 Seek and integrate disability specialist feedback on draft recommendations according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 3.2 Seek and implement feedback from required personnel on updated recommendations, where required and according to organisational policies and procedures
  • 3.3 Submit final proposed recommendations to workplace diversity and inclusion personnel
