This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use basic techniques to work with digital images. It involves preparing resources for digital imaging, using and testing different techniques to produce digital images and reviewing plans to further develop own skills.The unit applies to those applying fundamental skills in the use of digital software for general design or drawing purposes in a creative arts practice.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1. Prepare digital imaging resources
  • 1.1 Identify and obtain tools, equipment and materialsused to create digital images
  • 1.2 Prepare tools, equipment and materials according to organisational policies, proceduresand safety requirements
  • 1.3 Set upa safework space with guidance from required personnel
2. Use and test digital imaging techniques
  • 2.1 View different digital images in different styles produced by key practitioners and discuss with others how these effects are achieved
  • 2.2 Match potential techniques for producing images to own ideas with assistance from required personnel
  • 2.3 Nominate and test techniques and determine the effects they achieve
  • 2.4 Produce digital images using selected techniques and safe work practices
  • 2.5 Clean work space and equipment and return to original condition
3. Make plans to develop skills
  • 3.1 Seek and use feedback from required personnel on own digital imaging work and identify areas for improvement
  • 3.2 Review different opportunities to build own skills and select suitable options
