Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to construct and install wastewater collection assets.It includes preparing for work, confirming work quality and finalising work. It also includes excavating, preparing trenches, installing or placing prefabricated components and completing documentation.This unit applies to those working as field staff with specific responsibility for ensuring that wastewater pipelines are constructed and installed in a safe and timely manner. Those undertaking this unit would work under appropriate supervision or in a team using own familiar resources, while performing routine tasks in a range of familiar contexts.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Prepare forconstruction and installation
- 1.1 Determine work requirements for construction and installation from plans, specifications and instructions
- 1.2 Perform worksite check to prevent damage to other utilities
- 1.3 Select and check equipment and tools required to meet safety and work requirements of task and worksite
- 1.4 Select, fit and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
- 1.5 Identify potential risks to public and environment, and take appropriate steps to minimise and eliminate risks
2 Construct and install collection pipelines
- 2.1 Excavate and prepare trenches according to workplace procedures
- 2.2 Lay bedding or foundations according to workplace procedures
- 2.3 Inspect pipes, fitting, lay and joint
- 2.4 Install or place prefabricated components according to manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures
- 2.5 Backfill excavations according to workplace procedures
3 Confirm work quality and finalise work
- 3.1 Check constructed or installed collection assets, pipes and fittings to ensure specifications are met
- 3.2 Check, maintain and store equipment, tools and materials according to workplace procedures
- 3.3 Restore worksite to meet environmental and organisational requirements
- 3.4 Complete workplace records, constructed drawings and process
