Description
This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to monitor and control training area and range visits.It includes the skills required to control access to training area/range where coordination and compliance are required.This unit applies to Defence personnel who work in range management and range control but may be relevant to others who work in this field. Those undertaking this unit would work independently or as part of a team, under indirect supervision, while performing complex tasks, in a range of familiar and unfamiliar contexts. They would use discretion and judgement and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs.No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Elements and Performance Criteria
1 Coordinate training area/range visits
  • 1.1 Coordinate visits to training area/range activities in accordance with Range Standing Orders and activity schedules
  • 1.2 Clarify the agreed purpose and outcomes of a training area/range visit and in accordance with Range Standing Orders
  • 1.3 Coordinate clearances and access to training area/range using technical specifications, maps and diagrams
2 Monitor training area/range visit
  • 2.1 Monitor training area/range visit in accordance with Range Standing Orders and relevant instructions
  • 2.2 Ensure visit complies with relevant policies and instructions
3 Manage training area/range visit
  • 3.1 Resolve training area/range visit and activity coordination issues through direct contact and discussions
  • 3.2 Manage access and exit to training area/range for visit
4 Coordinate reporting on training area/range activities
  • 4.1 Monitor submission of post-exercise/visit reports in accordance with Range Standing Orders and relevant instructions
  • 4.2 Action non-compliance reports to relevant authorities in accordance with Range Standing Orders and relevant contracts
