Description

The Certificate IV in Fine Art provides initial training for individuals who wish to pursue careers as visual artists. Students have the option of working with traditional art disciplines such as Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture, as well as electronic media and other new fields.
Studio skills are developed through direct investigation of techniques and materials, which form an essential component of the student's learning experience. Research and observation, experimentation and evaluation lead to the acquisition of valuable skills in key areas of contemporary visual art practice.

Core modules in Art History and Theory encourage students to develop skills of critical exploration and speculative thinking about current and historical issues in the visual arts. Students learn to participate in discussion, articulate their responses to a range of art practices, and to examine their ideas within a wider cultural framework. In addition, Drawing enables students to graphically record and develop imagery. Links between studio practice and theoretical ideas are a feature of the course structure.
