The Diploma of Engineering provides the skills and knowledge required in the fields of engineering including, mechanical, metallurgy, computer aided drafting, engineering drafting, refrigeration and airconditioning. civil/structural and planning/maintenance at the para professional level.

GENERIC CORE:
1. Learners are required to complete the GENERIC CORE below plus the specific pathways core and pathway electives to equal 21 full modules. See General Notes for course rules. To maintain consistency between the Diploma and Advanced Diploma (43311) EA003 is to be chosen instead of (43781) EA 003. The Engineering Maths B modules are treated the same only one needs to be completed to meet core requirements.

VET Info Notes
1. Learners entering with year 11 or 12 will be required to complete 21 full modules. A maximum of 6 NMEC modules and a minimum of 9 EA level modules or dual status modules must be completed as part of the 21 modules. The modules will be drawn from the generic core, pathway core and electives.
Learners entering with a Certificate III in Engineering Trade or Certificate III in Engineering Production or equivalent are required to complete a minimum of 15 full modules. NMEC or EPC Modules counted as part of the Certificate III cannot be counted as part of the 6 maximum NMEC or EPC modules and the minimum 9 EA level or dual status modules required as part of the 15 full module requirement. Modules will be drawn from the generic core, pathway core and electives.
Learners entering with a Certificate IV in Engineering (HET) should contact the relevant Curriculum Support Services Network (CSSN). Recognition of Prior Learning/Recognition of Current Competency principles may be applied to provide credit for knowledge and skills already possessed. Learners apply through RTO.

2. The NMEC Trade and Engineering Technician/Associate module banks are not listed as part of this document. Reference should be made to the current version or the complete module descriptors for further information.

Both learner and total hours are notional and are guidelines for training provider management purposes only. Instructors and learners should be encouraged to take advantage of the acceleration facility afforded by competency-based training.

In training provider planning context:
- a full module represents 36 hours
- a half module represents 18 hours
- a one and a half module represents 54 hours
- a dual module represents 72 hours.
