The purpose of this module is to provide competency-based training in
communication skills to facilitate a work team to achieve specified goals.
This module is suitable for participants who need to know how to establish and
maintain a work team and who want to develop their communication skills to do
this. Participants need well developed oral and interpersonal skills. The
module focuses on team processes and the communication skills required to
facilitate all aspects of a work team.
Work teams, as distinct from groups of people who work together, play an
important part in the restructured workplace. The leadership of a work team
may rotate between members.

participants need to analyse a range of case studies and work team scenarios
and discuss previous experience. To help participants achieve Learning Outcome
2 learners need to be given the opportunity to work in a team which focuses on
a real task. This team may be from their workplace or it could be one set up
specifically to enable them to achieve the learning outcomes. The team must be
working towards completing a specific goal. Participants need time to practise
and develop the communication skill required to help a work tem achieve its
goals. Therefore regular feedback on their performance during work team
activities is crucial.
Some areas of content are common to more than one learning outcome. These
similar areas of content should be integrated throughout the teaching/learning
program.
