To enable students to communicate appropriately and
effectively in English and the LOTE (Language Other
Than English), both orally and in writing, in the
area of Education.

1 Compare pre-school, primary, secondary and tertiary education and
vocational training in the LOTE country and Australia. 20%
2 Listen to a recorded/read speech in English explaining school rules
and policy and write in the LOTE a list of the rules and/or points of

3 Listen to a recorded dialogue in the LOTE concerning student enrolment
and use the information given to fill in an enrolment

4 Give an oral synopsis of a syllabus in the
LOTE. 10%
5 Role-plays - Teacher/principal/office staff and parent/student (both

I Criteria for Assessment
Successful communication is the focus of all
assessment. In assessing the communicative skills of the student, the
following criteria (subject to language-specific needs) may assist in
determining the level of student performance:
- Clarity of expression
- Command of topic-specific vocabulary
- Appropriateness of language
- Fluency
- Structural accuracy
- Knowledge of subject matter
- Accuracy of information.
