Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide project support services throughout the lifecycle of projects in the building and construction industry from establishment to completion. The unit includes reviewing and confirming project arrangements, determining project support tasks and project completion requirements.
This is a knowledge-based unit of competency which is applied by new entrants to non-trade roles in the building and construction industry who undertake project support activities working in a building and construction company or for a builder, surveyor, engineer, estimator or drafting service.

Elements and Performance Criteria
Review and confirm project arrangements
- 1.20 Obtain project brief and supporting information and clarify required outcomes in accordance with project plans and organisational policy and procedures
- 1.21 Analyse project plans to identify and confirm project objectives, stakeholders, governance arrangements, risk management, roles, responsibilities, resources, and timeframes
- 1.22 Confirm project management protocols, controls and communication strategy, and identify support services required to enable their effective implementation
- 1.23 Confirm the project budget and its alignment with project deliverables, timeframes and allowances for contingencies
- 1.24 Identify and map project milestones against project objectives, deliverables, timeframes and payment schedules
Determine project support tasks
- 2.1 Determine requirements for monitoring project commencement and implementation in accordance with organisational procedures
- 2.2 Identify project management tools to be used to support project activities and the rules relating to their functionality and access
- 2.3 Identify reporting requirements for scheduled activities, project meetings to be organised, undertaken and minuted, and project data to be captured and recorded or shared, in accordance with the project plans
- 2.4 Determine requirements for status reports on project progress including any issues identified with quality requirements or timeframes not being met, in accordance with project plans and schedules
- 2.5 Identify the method for raising project issues and the personnel for reporting issues in accordance with organisational policy and procedures
Determine project completion requirements
- 4.16 Identify quality checks to be undertaken to confirm project deliverables were completed to the agreed standard and in the required timeframes and any impact on payment requirements
- 4.17 Confirm handover procedure for deliverables, and the support activities typically required for project completion
- 4.18 Determine record keeping and archiving requirements for project data and information, in accordance with organisational procedures and legislative requirements
- 4.19 Identify evaluation and reporting requirements for identifying strengths and issues with project management, and for making recommendations for continuous improvement of processes for future projects
