Description
To provide the learner with the knowledge of the construction of ships and the
required standards of maintenance, repair and manning.
Range of Variables
This module is taught in a classroom augmented with several ship visits.
Teaching will be by the Integrated Theory/Practical teaching method.

The assessment of this module is holistic in nature and requires assessing on
the integration of skills and knowledge. To be successful in this module, the
learner must show evidence of achievement of the module aim. This approach
enables the assessment to be carried out by different means to achieve a
holistic outcome.

The assessment scheme is generally designed to ensure that critical knowledge
and skills are assessed more than once and in a variety of ways throughout the
module’s assessment events. This provides a valid assessment of the learner’s
abilities and avoids misrepresentation of failures caused by single cases of
poor performance.
