Evidence Guide
Internal Assessment 100%
Eight Tests:
Comprehension of a signed passage, with
written questions, to be answered in
writing.
Comprehension of an English passage, read aloud, with signed questions to be
answered in ADSL.
Dictation given in signed English.
Rendition of written passage into ADSL.
Writing meaning of isolated terms.
Signing of isolated English terms.
Finger-spelling of sentences, read
aloud.
Writing words, given in finger- spelling.
Aim
To improve the skill and speed of communicating with the wide range of deaf
people, using finger-spelling and signing. This is to be achieved, by exposing
students to all acceptable signs given for terms within the course, and used in
conversation.
Focus
Expressive skills need attention and work, but more problems occur when
receiving a message, or "reading back", especially of finger-spelling. These
receptive skills are emphasised throughout the year.
Note
It is important that students be exposed to all signs, used by the deaf
community, including components of Australian Signed English and Auslan
(Australian Deaf Language).
